Playright Offers Social-Emotional-Cognitive Groups

Here at Playright in Huntersville, North Carolina, we are working to develop social-emotional-cognitive groups for children of all age ranges. A sensory-safe place where they can be guided as they learn to understand the subtleties of building and maintaining friendships.

Groups are tailored to provide similar-aged peers an opportunity to practice the thoughts, skills, behaviors, and strategies needed to understand their own emotions as well as those of their peers as they engage in their daily interactions with others. Groups focus on social, emotional, and cognitive skills through engagement in enjoyable activities, including the following.

  • Fiber Arts

  • Multi-Media Art

  • Mindful Movement, Balance, and Self Awareness

  • Drama and Theater Arts

  • Games

Each group builds on prior learning, and consistent attendance is highly recommended to gain the most from the experience. Groups run for 10 weeks and meet once weekly for 60 minutes.

The curriculum includes:

  • Self Awareness and Regulation

  • Recognizing and coping with emotions

  • Conceptual learning: big picture thinking

  • Problem-solving and prioritizing

  • Executive functioning: planning, problem-solving, sequencing, and impulse control

  • Fundamental Social Skills

  • Social Initiation and Response Skills

  • Active Listening

  • Perspective taking & Getting Along With Others Successfully

  • Inferential learning: abstract, implied, and figurative language/communication

We are striving to form cohesive groups in which all members are within reasonably similar developmental levels. Contact us for more information and to discover if this would be a good fit for your child.
